| This area hosts some of Australia's largest exporters including
Woodside Petroleum (Liquid Natural Gas), Hamersley Iron and Dampier
Salt. The national importance of this hub cannot be overstated. Dampier
is the Hamersley Iron port from which over 1 million tons a week is
received by rail and shipped. Dampier has a primary school and is
the main recreational boating outlet to the Dampier Archipelago. Karratha
is the main residential, shopping, administrative and educational
town for the area and it's resource industries. Currently this area
is in boom times. Expansion of the Woodside LNG facility and other
projects on the Burrup Peninsula will ensure this area continues to
expand for years to come with billions of dollars changing hands.
